Golden Ocean Seafood Restaurant is a longtime Cantonese seafood spot tucked into Vancouver’s Kerrisdale neighborhood, known for its steady dim sum service and classic Chinese fare. From the moment you enter—after climbing the modest stairs from the street—the space opens into a bright, lively dining room that feels familiar and straightforward rather than flashy. This restaurant leans into its traditional roots, with a menu focused on Cantonese specialties and seafood prepared in time-honored styles.

The real draw here is the dim sum experience, especially for groups or families who enjoy leisurely meals where dishes arrive gradually and keep the conversation going. Unlike many places that bring the entire selection at once or have stopped traditional rolling carts, Golden Ocean still offers dim sum items in small batches, keeping the food fresh and hot. You’ll find classic plates like steamed shrimp dumplings, mini sticky rice lotus wraps, turnip cakes, and spring rolls circulating frequently alongside some heartier options such as pan-fried lobster with ginger and onion or black cod steamed with black bean sauce.

Service plays a key role in the experience—staff tend to be attentive with a friendly demeanor, and having a reservation during peak dim sum hours is a helpful tip to avoid waits. The seating is spacious and comfortable for the most part, though tables can sit a little close, which is typical of busy Cantonese eateries. The atmosphere, though practical, invites a sense of ease rather than formality, making it a good choice for celebratory meals or casual get-togethers alike.

For those who appreciate more than just dim sum, the menu extends into various soups, seafood, and meat dishes that carry familiar regional flavors, such as sweet and sour spare ribs or beef cooked with bitter melon and preserved vegetables. Prices are consistent with traditional Cantonese dining spots, offering good portions that match the vibrant quality found in each dish.

Golden Ocean works best as a reliable neighborhood restaurant where locals seek authentic, no-frills Cantonese seafood and dim sum. It’s well suited for midday or early evening meals, particularly on weekends when the dining room hums with families enjoying time together. While it may not sport the most modern décor, its steady, hospitable vibe and solid food draw a steady clientele who appreciate a down-to-earth spot preserving a classic dining rhythm in Vancouver.

Golden Seafood absolutely deserves a 5 out of 5! This restaurant is truly the ultimate spot for a dim sum party experience—once you sit down, the dim sum just keeps coming out, and it feels endless in the best way possible. From the very first bite, you can taste the authenticity of their menu. The flavors are rich, fresh, and exactly what you’d expect from a place that takes pride in real Asian culinary traditions. Only those familiar with authentic dim sum know which ones are truly worth it, and Golden Seafood nails it across the board. The service was just as impressive—fast, organized, and attentive without being overbearing. The staff made sure everything flowed smoothly, so we could simply enjoy the food and the moment. What I love most is that every dish that came to the table was tempting—you’ll seriously want to try everything on the menu because the quality is consistent all throughout. If you’re craving a genuine dim sum feast with outstanding flavors, efficient service, and a fun, lively atmosphere, Golden Seafood is the place to go. I can’t wait to come back again soon!

Long standing Cantonese restaurant in Kerrisdale! Solid lunch and dinner with some unique offerings. Started to look a bit dated but done some recent updates. Spacious and comfortable seatings.

First time visiting Golden Ocean Seafood restaurant. Came here for my mothers 80th birthday. From the outside, plain appeal. Go up the stairs and through the door and restaurant looks very appealing, bright and lively. We enjoyed the decor. Service was excellent, staff was very friendly and accommodating. Dim Sum was busy so having a reservation helps a lot. All the food we ordered was great and very tasty. Eggplant shrimp was different and excellent! Traditional chicken feet dish was also excellent and had a different taste than what youll find if you ordered this at other restaurants. Would differently come here again.

Not many dimsum restaurants still roll out their dimsum these days. These guys still do. They make a few different items each time so the food comes out hot and ready. Service is fast and the old ladies are nice. They even changed our plates mid meal, which is rare these days for dimsum restaurants. Seats are comfortable, tables are a bit closer than comfortable, but overall reasonable for pricing and quality of food. Fried dishes are done really well. Steamed dishes are okay. Pastries are good, but not the most flaky I've had. Solid restaurant for dimsum you can see while you order. All dishes are considered not too sweet and not too salty in my opinion. Taste is good and would come back as they're also not too busy and easy to get seating.

This is a hidden gem for Chinese food. My boyfriend found out about this place. The food is great and so big. Their crab craw is like double side compared to the other Chinese restaurants I have been to. I will definite come back here, and I highly recommend this place

I visited Golden Ocean in a Sat morning just when they started the day of business. Food is average for vegetarian dishes, maybe it's too early for the day. Rice rolls are nice. Overall, a good dining experience.

Few things hit the spot for brunch quite like dim sum. At Golden Ocean, the plates seem to arrive in an endless wave . My personal must‑have is the sticky rice. For vegetables, I go for the garlicky pea tips, and I can’t resist the pan‑fried turnip cake. I would have posted more photos but I ate the items.
